Me and My First Baby!

1. Were you married at the time? Yes, we were married almost three years when he was born (had to wait for permanent contract, ya know!)

2. What were your reactions when you found out you were pregnant? We’d been trying for six months, so I was relieved and a bit numb honestly!  After about 30 seconds I was thrilled though!

3. How old were you?27

4. How did you find out you were pregnant? I had bought a test beforehand, just in case.  (We live far away from anything, so I wasn’t taking a special trip to the city for a pregnancy test!)  My period was a day or two late, but I felt crampy like it was coming.  I tested anyway and there was a big + almost instantly!

5. Who did you tell first? I woke Paul up to tell him.  (It was 7:00.  On a Saturday.  I had to pee!)  Then I managed to hold on to about 9:00 to call my parents – who I also woke up!

6. Did you want to find out the sex? No.  But once we were at the Ultrasound and the tech knew, I HAD to know!

7. Due date: May 7th

8. Did you deliver early or late? Late.  I was scheduled for an induction two days after he was actually born.

9. Did you have morning sickness? No!  I was only very very tired.  Eggs made me feel a bit queasy.  Anything greasy did, really.  But I was fine!

10. What did you crave? Nothing much.  I was crazy thirsty and I drank lots of juice.  You can only have so much water!  And I ate lots of fruit, too!

11. Who irritated you the most? Um.  I’d tell you but it would be “unprofessional”

12. What was your first child’s sex? Male.

13. How many pounds did you gain throughout the pregnancy? 30.  I gained like 5 in the last month, I nearly fell off the scale when I saw!

14. Did you have any complications during your pregnancy? INot even the tiniest one.  I was so lucky!

15. Where did you give birth? The QEII in Grande Prairie

16. How many hours were you in labor? Well.  My water broke Saturday morning (sort of Friday night, actually, but properly on the Saturday)  We went to the hospital and waited a day for contractions to start.  Sunday I got the induction buffet, nothing worked.  Monday the buffet continued.  Finally around noon something kicked in.  I had what I now know are mild contractions for about 3 1/2 hours, until I went to 3 cm.  Then I went to 10 in 1 1/2 hours.  That hurt. So active labour 1 1/2 hours.  From the time my water broke – nearly 60.  But most of that time I was sitting there thinking “is this it???”

17. Who drove you to the hospital? Paul did.

18. Who watched? Just Paul.  My family is far away and I think one person is plenty!  Besides, he did a great job 🙂

19. Was it vaginal or c-section? vaginal

20. Did you take medicine to ease the pain? I got morphine and gravol.  Not particularly helpful, but I think I went a lot faster than they expected, and they were waiting for near the end!

21. How much did your child weigh? 8lbs 15ounces.  “One big poop short of 9 lbs” they told me.

22. What did you name him/her? James Martin.  After my Daddy.  It took us forever to decide, and I was convinced I wanted him to be Oliver or Lucas, but he didn’t look like either.  That’ll be #2 aand #3 I guess!

23. How old is your first born today? 4 1/2 months.  He’s such a big boy now 😦
