We’ve been on our own again this week, as Paul’s been away working.  It’s tough to keep up with housework, eating and keeping the baby happy some days, but sometimes we’re pretty productive around here.  I love it when I can sit down at the end of the day and think about all the stuff I did!

James has been running low on baby food and I’ve even resorted to (gasp!) some jarred stuff I keep as back-ups.  The problem is, the recipes from his blender baby foods book are so yummy that I end up eating most of it (pre-blended) instead of freezing it for him.  Mmmmmmmmmmmmm baby food!  Seriously!

So we made carrots with dates (so good!) apple, pear and cranberry sauce (also so good!) and summer turnips (turnipy.  So good if you like that)  Don’t you just love our retro oven?  I do.  Gas stoves are so much easier to cook with than electric ones.  It’s just a bit chipped :p

James chasing the camera.  I just LOVE him!

I’ve been making baby food like it’s going out of style.

So far – Acorn Squash, Sweet Potatoes, Parsnips, Bananas, Apples, Prunes, and Apple-Cranberry.  I ran out of freezer space so today I went downtown and found a wire rack so I can stack things better.  Thank goodness, because I found a nice bunch of broccoli that has James’s name on it!  He’s only had veggies so far, except for the prunes, but they were an emergency!

He’s loved nearly everything.  He tried avocados, but just wouldn’t eat them, and the peas were not a hit at all.  They were the canned kind, though, and would you eat them?  I wouldn’t!  He got so fed up with them that he actually screamed, ripped at his bib, and wriggled his shoulders to get them out of the high chair straps.  It was the funniest thing, he’s really beginning to show us some attitude!

I adore watching his little personality develop, and yet, I couldn’t really describe what that personality is.  He’s happy most of the time, he loves to play and be tickled, but he’s also serious when there’s a new thing to get into or examine.  He’s just starting to be nervous around people he doesn’t really know, and sometimes cries when I leave the room – even if he’s playing with someone else!  I shouldn’t like that, but I do!  I love being loved by this sweet little creature!

James had his first veggies today . . . green beans!  I always though baby food beans looked pretty gross (and I still do) but they smelled quite nice!  I haven’t been brave enough to taste them, but James LOVED them!  He likes the pablum, but these beans are clearly the best thing that ever happened to him.

He reached for the spoon with his whole body – arms, legs and lips.  A baby reaching with his lips for something he badly wants is the very cutest thing.  Ever.  He grabbed my hand and the spoon with both chubby little hands to pull it in faster, and banged away on his tray when I took it away to get more. He ate half the jar!

Absolutely a success! (Assuming he doesn’t have tummy issues, of course!)
