January 2009

roundup1

I got my bottom file drawer sorted, and while it’s nothing earth-shattering, it does look much better than it did before!

The top isn’t done yet, so it’s serving as my “before” picture.  The bottom was much the same, only much more full!

Can you tell I love my new label maker?

James is the perfect size to knit for – at least for someone who’s learning like me!  I just finished my second project and am all super proud.  He looks so cute in it!

Now I’m on the lookout for buttons!  I’m thinking wooden ones might be nice, but the plan is to make a matching toque with a green stripe in it, so maybe green ones too!

My initials (then) chipped into the stone at Dunluce Castle, Northern Ireland.  It’s quite worn.  I like to imagine who the other PS is, and when they put their initials in the windowsill . . .

Since our much loved little Civic got smooshed over Christmas, we decided to get something a little bigger to cart all the baby stuff around.  Besides, when we have baby #2 we’ll need the extra space! (Whenever that is!)

We looooove it!  It’s such a pretty green colour, the pictures don’t show it properly, and it has a sunroof!  I’ve always wanted a sunroof.  Paul convinced me that we should get it and I’m so glad he did!

James’ awesome new cowmooflage seat!  There’s lots of room in the back, which is good.  We want to keep him rear facing as long as possible.   He can be rear facing to 30 lbs and forward facing and harnessed until 65 lbs.

exersaucer-and-crv050Sunroof!   Wahoo!

Since we have a bigger car now with more trunk space, I really want to get a new stroller.  Ours is truly awful and won’t go over snow, gravel or even grass.  It’s good for the mall and stuff, just not outside.  A really good one is pretty expensive, but I’m soooo in love with these:

But think we’ll probably get this:

tedssp5redbecause you can get a little jump seat at the back for a second baby, so it’s like a twin stroller without being a twin stroller all the time.  Plus all the wheels are big ones, which I think might make a big difference.  We need a place where we can look at them in real life, but I’m not sure where that would be :p

I’m trying to write a letter to the school division asking for two more months of leave, which means James won’t need daycare or babysitting until he’s 16 months.  A year is SO young to put him in daycare.  I know they’re wonderful people and he’d be just fine but I just can’t do it.  I don’t want to miss anything!  What if he walks for the first time when I’m not there?  What if he says “Mommy” and I don’t get to hear it?

We are so lucky in Canada to have a full year off, and yet, I still don’t think it’s enough.  Health Canada wants people to nurse until babies are 2, but the Government of Canada wants to back to work when they’re 1.

Anyway, I hate writing letters like this.  All I want to say is, “Please don’t make me go back yet.  I love my job but I can’t leave my son yet.  Give me until September.”   But of course, you can’t and I really don’t know how to put it.

Argh.

I haven’t done this in awhile, it was wonderful being away, but it’s nice to get back to normal too.

Monday – Fish and chips (Paul’s doing the batter!)

Tuesday – Apple Pork and Cabbage with potato wedges

Wednesday – Pasta with Italian sausage and red peppers

Thursday – Roast with carrots, potatoes, parsnips and sweet potatoes (James’ favourite!)

Friday – Leftovers

Saturday – Pasta with shrimp and lemon

Sunday – Toasted egg sandwiches (there’s a word for this and I can’t for the life of me remember it)

I’m looking forward to seeing all the other menus this week, I need some new ideas!
